Matterport Showcase

The embeddable WebGL 3D web player. The surface real-estate listings, museums, hotels, and retail stores used to let visitors walk through a Matterport scan in a browser.

What Showcase was

Showcase was the public-facing 3D web player. A finished Matterport scan was embedded as a player on a host site — a real-estate listing, a hotel's bookings page, a museum's exhibit page — and visitors walked through the scan without leaving the host.

What it did

The player offered three view modes — Dollhouse (the scan as a small 3D model rotated from outside), Floor Plan (a top-down architectural rendering with rooms labeled), and Inside (first-person walkthrough between scan positions). It rendered on desktop browsers, mobile browsers, and tablets, with later support for VR via Google Cardboard. Because Showcase loaded inside someone else's page, the chrome had to be minimal and the keyboard shortcuts couldn't conflict with the host.

My role

UX Design Manager. Led design across the three view modes and the embeddable player chrome.
