Matterport Viewing App

The iOS and Android app for visitors browsing Matterport 3D models — with Cardboard VR support in later versions. Matterport's direct-to-consumer surface during the era.

What the Viewing App was

Showcase ran in a browser. The Viewing App was the same content packaged as a native app on iOS and Android, for visitors who wanted to browse multiple Matterport models in one place, and for VR sessions via Google Cardboard.

Of Matterport's four product surfaces during the era, the Viewing App was the only one a visitor signed into as themselves. Capture was for operators. Showcase was embedded in someone else's page. Workshop was for editors. The Viewing App was for the audience.

What it did

The app offered view-mode parity with Showcase — Dollhouse, Floor Plan, and Inside — adapted to native gesture grammars on iOS and Android. A Cardboard VR mode handled scan-to-scan navigation by head-pose and tap input. Visitors could save models for later, and a Discover surface let them browse public models by category.
